Not as endearing as the original October 9, 2008 Elizabeth Martinez (La Grange, IL) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Having loved the grown-up version, I thought that the kids' book would be great. It's not as endearing as the full blown story. There were some very funny parts of the grown-up version that would have translated well to a children's book but I think the author missed the mark on this one.
So Sweet September 6, 2008 Beachbum (Miami) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
What a sweet book. This is definitely going on the Christmas list, possibly for many Christmases to come! I adored Marley and Me when it came out, and this is just as good - in its own way. Highly recommended as a children's book.
This book is great for kids! August 26, 2008 J. Sedustine (Arvada, Colorado) Having just read John Grogan's book "Marley and Me," I had to have the children's book. I loved and laughed heartily at John Grogan's heartwarming story of life with his beloved dog Marley and his growing family. I am a fourth grade teacher and had already shared some especially funny excerpts with my students. Subsequently, I introduced and read "Bad Dog Marley!" to my students and they loved it! I would recommend reading "Marley and Me" before the children's book to get a true appreciation of the trials and tribulations of owning a dog like Marley. As a side note, having shared my imense enjoyment of the book "Marley and Me" with another teacher, I learned that she also has a "Marley" sort of dog, only his name is Walter!
My first exposure to John Grogan and Marley May 11, 2008 Emily J. Taylor (Utah) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
When one of my students insisted I read this book to the class, I admittedly did so with a grain of salt. I mean, how many naughty doggy stories can anyone possibly write? I had never heard of John Grogan and was not at all sure of what to expect. What I read has to be one of the most charming, heartfelt, and hilarious stories ever written to children about a dog. In simplified, child-friendly prose, Grogan tells the story-book version of how he and his family acquired a very bad puppy named Marley. Marley is full of trouble and horendously destructive. But, as we are told, he tried so hard to be good! It has all the right drama (while I'm not sure what is true and what is story) and Grogan has an incredible gift for writing that splashes personality and humor directly into the story. I have fallen in love with a naughty puppy named Marley.
Bad Dog Marley is Hilarious!!! March 26, 2008 Kenneth Michael Maddock (Houston, TX) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Marley is a sweet new Labrador puppy who a nice family has decided to adopt for their children, Cassie and Baby Louie. What they don't know is that Marley just can't seem to get out of trouble. The more and more he grows, the more trouble he gets into. One day Marley makes the big mistake of eating Dad's paycheck, what will he do now? I think this an excellent story. It has humor, great illustrations, and in the end you find out that Marley is a real actual dog. I would definately recommend this book to children, teachers, and parents who want to read aloud to their kids at home. Go and buy it, you won't regret it.
