A Wonderful Story February 18, 2010 This book is full of surprise allbecause of one dog, Marley. Marley was a Labrador retriever, that gets in a LOT of trouble from getting kicked out of obedience school and eating anything he can find. He wasn't scared when John did the scare test to choose the dog. At first, the Grogans thought this puppy was cute and precious, but when they brought it home it wrecked EVERYTHING from the yard to concrete walls. This family went through a lot with Marley and they had a special bond that no one can relate to.John and his wife and writers for a newpaper company and Marley is a great story to read about. This book is great for you, if you want a book to make you laugh ,but also make you cry at one point or another.
Marley A Dog Like No Other June 4, 2009 Mikki Mac (Iowa, USA) Loved the book, love dogs, made me laugh, made me happy, made me cry.
It's a great book and if you love pets and animals, read this book and read Dewey The Library Cat, too.
Chandler from Lake Tapps says: This is a Really Good Book! May 7, 2009 This book is one of the greatest books I've ever read! That's saying a lot. I didn't want to put it down but, my mom made me put it down and go to bed. Marley and Me can't be explained with words! John Grogan's book is an incredible and spectacular demonstration of a extraordinary writer.
In the beginning John Grogan got a dog when he was a boy. That dog set his standards for all dogs. Shaun (his dog) was so obedient and a great companion. So, when John Grogan got Marley he had another thing coming. The first time they left Marley alone in his concrete residence he went berserk he had blood everywhere. There even was a big gap in the wall! Also, Marley would eat really random stuff like; napkins, speaker wiring and stuff like that. Luckily they found it in Marley's poop. That was rainbow colored because Marley liked eating mangoes. If you want to discover out what happens next you have to read the book.
My favorite part is when John Grogan laid on his back on the kid's toboggan. Then Marley jumped on him and then they went flying! They went down so quickly because of their weight. I thought they were going to fly off the toboggan! I chuckled so hard I got the hiccups when they went flying into the river. I was surprised that the river wasn't frozen when it snowed. I also, laughed when Marley wanted to do it again. I can't believe that they went so far!
The greatest character in this book is Marley he is so lovable. I can't explain how companionable, compatible and adorable he is. One part in the book I cried because they had to put Marley down. I didn't want them to put Marley down but, it was his time to go. Marley had a really excellent existence.
I recommend this book to everyone and everybody who enjoy excellent books! This book deserved to be turned into a movie. I can't wait to watch the movie. I give this book 5 stars *****. If I could give it additional stars I would. I hope the movie is as excellent as the book.
Dog Lover April 10, 2009 C. Gatto (Jersey Shore) Great book for anyone who has loved a bad dog! I found myself constantly nodding and laughing in agreement of everything that happened in this book. Well written and fun a wonderful tribute to man "and womans" best friend everywhere. I would recommend this book to anyone who has ever loved a dog in their life.
Absolutely Wonderful! February 7, 2009 Wendy (Maryville, TN United States) My 8 year old son chose this book to read for 'accelerated reading' for school and it's just a wonderful book. It really kept his interest & had him laughing out loud through out. When my son started chapter 22, it was too sad & emotional for him to read by himself, so we curled up on the couch with our dog Jake and read it together. Make sure you have a big box of kleenex handy once you get to Ch. 22! We were both in tears and by chapter 23 we were squalling like babies...it was difficult to get through. But what a beautiful, wonderfully written story. My husband & I had a dog not unlike Marley that we had to put down over 8 years ago and boy did the emotions come flooding back just as though it had happened yesterday. Some dogs are so special, they leave their paw prints on your heart forever. Marley is one of those dogs...This touching book is a must read for dog lovers everywhere!
