A story written from the heart

She Came From Heaven is anything but a cute little doggie book. Rather, it is a kaleidoscope filled with wonderful detailed descriptions of characters, settings and situations that lure the reader into a crisis they never saw coming. The journey back from the frontier of desperation often moved me to tears. The further I got into the story, the more emotion was being poured out. She Came From Heaven has great elements of transition and foreshadowing that build drama and intrigue to the last page.

Writer/Editor - Ginny De Mille

"The dog's identity remained unknown, untraceable. She lived off the radar with no past, no present. Her history had been erased. I started to believe she had been enrolled in The Witness Protection Program. But at witness to what?"

5 out of 5 stars She Came for Heaven is heavenly and the witer's voice, superb!   September 8, 2008

"She Came from Heaven" by Rosanne Pellicane

A book review by www.bariefez-barringten.com

Written like a screen play for a 1940s movie Rosanne's writing is conversational, witty and full of the timing of great theater and the age of brilliant "one-liners". Her characters sharply show their personality while the interplay between them is as bright as a Nick and Nora Charles/ "Topper" play. Its no wonder, Rosanne is a product of a culture and people of voice, opinions and ideas. Each description and lines they speak build to form a sequence of events leading the plot and compelling us to read further to enjoy the life she has recreated.

Each chapter has a beginning middle and end and reads like a complete episode. She writes with a wisdom that can only be born of the Holy Sprit; the Holy Spirit, who has filled Rosanne's already full and creative life with light and truth. Her voice is urban and cosmopolitan wit , a throwback to her ancestry and indigenous city context. She writes as she speaks superbly able to reify her perceptions into the spoken and written word. Like her interior designs, she is not only sensitive to the wiles and whims of those she encounters but also able to see those in perspective with an endless vocabulary of appropriate metaphors.

Brilliantly riveted on Whimsy, Rosanne presents us with a flawless libretto of her family, husband and their relationship and the many people and things that come and go in her life. But, all of that is but the subject while the real joy of reading her work is in her writing.

"She Came from Heaven" is a must-read for purveyors of American culture and particularly urban high society. The book would translate well into an old fashioned episode-by-episode series of radio or TV programs, called "soaps".

As the author the writing overflows with her love of her Italian/American heritage with all of the loving sights, sounds and language it has to offer. No doubt, her career as an Interior Designer greatly gave her the visual and added historical vocabulary to make reading "She Came From Heaven" a heavenly experience. At one point I was sure the "she" was not the dog but her Italian neighbor, Mrs. Carrucci.

Autobiographies are written for the writer while memoirs for the reader. The reader takes away a model of Civility: civility, in our time about marriage commitments, social conversations, career decisions and family relations. "She Came from Heaven" makes no pretenses at being a how-to book but by Rosanne explicating her own very modern story her chronicles reflect our own epic lifetimes. Readers will be stuck by the way decisions they made and events unfold between Rosanne and her husband. Their relationship, dilemmas and context are paradigms of our urban life. Rosanne not only experienced these but also was able to write about them with revealing and insightful detail; it is riveting!

The title itself is a metaphor for hopes, imagination and culture as we aspire to something perfect and beyond the material world or in this case, love.

The story is about the way a dog named Whimsy enters and weaves her way through Rosanne's marriage. The reader will witness the limits and confines of conversations where each partner communicates on common issues but from a very different perspective. As the dog reacts as a witness to these dynamics in their relationship, we hear what they are not saying. While no good book review should reveal its book's ending, the reader will be well rewarded by the deft and action filled manner of the author's descriptions. It is a fitting ending to the page-turner- style of Rosanne's craft.

I heartily recommend reading "She Came form Heaven" and look forward to her next work.

I have a black female lab and I have always felt she came from heaven. So when I read this book I cried. My story was simlar only my husband died suddenly, leaving me with my only with my (2) beautiful dogs, one a black lab and the other a mutt like Paisley.
The story moves a little slow, but in the end she brings you in and if you are a dog lover this is a must read book. Sometimes a dog will be give you hope and love in the darkest moments of your life and help you to face the future alone.

5 out of 5 stars A Veritable Feast for the Soul   April 1, 2008

Living in what appears to be a normal marital relationship with its joys and tribulations, a precipitous and unexpected turn of events leaves a shocked spouse in great despair. It is through her earlier discovery and deep faith in God coupled with the sensitivity and loving attention of her female, canine companion (a gift from God) that she is able to put her life back together. The story is nicely sprinkled with well-timed, effective humor that adds an appropriate balance to the poignancy of the unfolding drama. Some colorful support characters richly inhabit this work, in particular, Mrs. Carrucci, a strong willed, opinionated, earthy neighbor with a giving heart for those she likes. We wish she were our neighbor!

This heartfelt piece is a great fast read and a veritable feast for the soul. We wholeheartedly recommend this book from first time author, Roseanne Pellicane and hope there will be many more.

5 out of 5 stars She Came From Heaven   March 19, 2008

She Came From Heaven is a heartwarming and tender story of a young couple in their struggle for peace, love and happiness. Rosanne brings us along on her journey through a relationship with a complicated man who could not figure out how to deal with his problems, resulting in his untimely death. A little puppy, Whimsey, who adopted them, seemed to bring love and loyalty to this troubled man. Though Jim's dog, Whimsey soon develops a bond with Rosanne and becomes her support through some very difficult times. The message here, is that God is always there for us and He knows what is best for us if only we pay attention. Uplifting and inspiring, I recommend reading this tender story.

5 out of 5 stars Finding Peace!   March 18, 2008

In this tender work we meet a couple and enter into the core of their lives. A couple just like so many others around the world, yet they were going to have an unexplained visitor who would touch both of their lives in a miraculous way. Both are animal lovers, so when a black Labrador appears at their home one night what could they do but take her in? Although Jim certainly felt a much more immediate attachment than our author did, the little puppy seemed to have been brought to them for a purpose. Whimsey, as she was named, seemed to have no past, and despite our authors desperate tries at finding her rightful owner that never happened, nor was she able to place the dog with anyone else. Whimsey soon became a part of the family and a sister and friend to Paisley, the couples other dog.
The story goes on and the couple lives life and all its struggles and challenges. Unfortunately, unbeknown to his wife, Jim could not handle what he was up against in life and killed himself. The trauma, heartbreak, questions, guilt and blame all began for Rosanne as she struggled to make sense of his death. Here is where she reaches out deeper to a God who loves her and finds solace in Him, and comfort in the companionship of Whimsey, who seemed to know her every thought and emotion. She becomes an anchor, a lighthouse through the storm, and a true friend and companion.
This story was one of life, pure and simple. Life is not often a Rose garden, but is more filled with challenges and sorrows as we walk the journey. In her walk, our author learned a simple yet complex fact. God is ever present, and often uses things, persons, and yes even animals to comfort us in our times of need. There is a lesson here that we need to be open to the knocking at our door with what maybe the very saving grace in the future. It is a story of heartbreak and sorrow, yet it is filled with courage and faith for a better tomorrow. A true heart to heart story.
