Product Description Books in Barrons Training Your Dog series offer breed-specific advice on virtually every aspect of canine training, including housebreaking, obedience to basic verbal commands and hand signals, retrieving, and walking on a leash. Also covered are humane methods of breaking a dogs bad habits. The typical Labrador Retriever is good-natured by temperament and willing to please his master--qualities that make him relatively easy to train. In this book, the author takes Lab owners step-by-step through her time-proven training method, which emphasizes positive reinforcement. Instructive color photos on most pages.

Excellant Primer for Understanding Your Lab February 11, 2010 Alex Sova (South Texas) The book is an excellant primer for understanding your new lab. It highlights important do's and don'ts in beginning training your new puppy. It certainly makes the adjustment more easier for both owner and lab. In short, a smoother transition into the new home is a positive move for a new relationship.
Good book for broad overview February 9, 2010 MatteyMoo (USA) Book does a good job of presenting full range of topics on Labs. If you are looking for specifics on training try "Family Dog". Otherwise enjoy, information seems current and is presented well.
Short, Simple, and it Really Works! March 4, 2009 G. Fowler (Nottingham, MD United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I read this book cover-to-cover before I got my first lab pup (8 weeks old) and used it religiously to train him. It was very intuitive and easy to read/understand, and it really worked. People are always commenting on how well-behaved and obedient my dog ("Hendrix") is. I have lent this book to at least four other dog owners, and they have all reported similar successes.
Using this book as a base point, and providing consistent training and attention, you should find it will leave you with the best companion you can ask for.
A must have book for all lab owners October 21, 2008 Megan G. Jones (Richfield, MN) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We have a 6 month old black lab. She has been a handful to say the least. We have looked at training videos online, gone to a puppy classes, and read several books. This is the best book by far for understanding our baby girl. I would highly suggest this book to any existing or potential lab owner.
Smart puppy September 5, 2008 Red Shouldered Hawk (Landenberg, PA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book stresses that labs are foodies and will work and learn nicely for good treats. I found Purina One dog biscuits to match its Purina One food line so that my labbie puppy gets nice nutrition while mastering her lessons. I am getting nice training results by following the directions in this book. Do exactly what is outlined and don't let up. I am a first time puppy owner and all is well!
